Santa with Kim Salitros
A question from a young boy to his mother sums up Christmas at Anna Marie’s shelter, “Mommy, can we be homeless again next year? This is the best Christmas ever!” We can look at this innocent question with sadness, yet we should look at it with wonder. This young boy asked this question before he received his presents! As the Grinch said, “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas … perhaps…means a little bit more!”
Oh, but it came! Christmas came, because of your generosity, over the period of a week! Our residents received gift cards, gift bags, jewelry, games, crafts, Legos, dolls, and toys, toys, toys, toys, TOYS!!!! We even delivered Christmas to a family in the community, who asked for nothing, yet the abuser took everything. Our shelter was stocked with pillows, blankets, quilts, paper products, cleaning supplies, and kitchen gadgets; all items we will use throughout the coming year.
Santa took time out of his busy schedule to visit the shelter and give stuffed, handmade stockings to the women and children who are staying here. His trusty elves helped carry the heavy sacks, and take family photos to be cherished for years to come!
From decorating cookies, to making ornaments, to playing Bingo, staff and volunteers kept the house busy. Meals were prepared and delivered, fit for a Queen, and chocolates and candies for all!
To all who donated their time, their gifts, their thoughts and hearts, thank you for making this, “the best Christmas ever” for those we serve!
We wish you a very happy and heart-filled 2018.
