Child/Youth Advocate Internship

A Child/Youth Advocate Intern at Anna Marie’s will be educated on and work with:

  • Intake interviews with mothers and their children.
  • Support groups for children who have witnessed violence.
  • Education for mothers relating to the effects of violence on children and parenting in a violent relationship.
  • Responding to women and children in crisis.
  • Providing support and advocacy to the needs of children and adolescents that have witnessed or experienced violence in their home.
  • Community education regarding domestic violence.
  • Providing recreation for adolescents and children.
  • Being a part of a team environment.
  • Court tracking to include monitoring child protection cases through the criminal court process and data collection on assault cases.

 

Qualifications:

  • Open to men and women 20 years of age and older.
  • Minimum time commitment of 20 hours a week for 10 weeks.
  • Previous support- or crisis-intervention experience a plus but not essential.
  • Previous experience working with children individually and in groups.
  • Knowledge of effective parenting skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team.
  • Good problem solving and priority setting skills.     
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Belief in non-violence and desire to assist victims of abuse.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all CMTFBW clients and staff.
