Community Education

 

The Community Education Department supports the agency's mission by increasing public awareness about the issues of domestic abuse. A 30 member Speaker's Bureau provides presentations and professional training's to civic organizations, schools and universities, religious groups, businesses, and other human service agencies. This department produces informational materials including the agency newsletter Shelterline, and coordinates Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities.

The Community Education Department continues is work towards building healthy relationships among young adults. The newly named Healthy Relationship Training Program (formerly Coaching the Coach) continues to provide training for coaches, team captains and athletic teams, but has expanded its reach to include groups of all kinds. Student councils, clubs, Scouts, Faith community youth groups are all encouraged to have the trainers visit a meeting. The training puts emphasis on awareness, action and positive role-modeling.
