In Minnesota, from 2000 to 2005, 140 women and 53 children died through domestic violence. At least 166 children have been left without mothers.
In 2005, at least 26 women and 4 children were murdered as a result of domestic violence.
In 2004, at least 13 women and 10 children were murdered as a result of domestic violence.
In 2003, at least 14 women and 10 children were murdered as a result of domestic violence.
In 2002, at least 16 women and 13 children were murdered as a result of domestic violence.
In 2001, at least 31 women and 10 children were murdered as a result of domestic violence.
In 2000, at least 40 women and 6 children were murdered as a result of domestic violence. This was a 46% increase in domestic violence murders over 1999.
Every year the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women (MCBW) compiles and distributes a list of women who were murdered in cases where the suspected, alleged or convicted perpetrator was a current or former husband, boyfriend, intimate partner or household/family member of the woman.
The MCBW also compiles a list of children who were murdered in cases were the suspected, alleged or convicted perpetrator was their mother's husband, boyfriend or intimate partner, or was the parent, foster parent, guardian, babysitter, or household/family member of that child.
