Charles Hempeck, Executive Director
Charles Hempeck has been active in the not-for-profit sector for over 15 years and has focused his energy on assisting people who fall outside of the American mainstream. He earned his M.S. in Women’s Studies from Minnesota State University – Mankato; with a study focus on violence against women.
In January of 2014 he began his work as executive director of Anna Marie’s Alliance, whose primary program is an emergency shelter for battered women and their children. Prior to his work at Anna Marie’s Alliance, Charles was the executive director of the Rural AIDS Action Network for over seven years, where he oversaw the expansion of services in all parts of Greater Minnesota. Throughout his career, Charles has sought out innovative practices and fruitful collaborations with other service providers.
He currently resides outside of Gilman, MN with his wife (Heidi), two children, three horses and two cats.
Patty Kennedy, Director of Finance
Patty Kennedy has worked in finance her entire career beginning at the St. Cloud Times. She wasDirector of Finance at St. Cloud Medical Group before moving into the non-profit realm at Central Minnesota Community Foundation. Patty joined Anna Marie’s Alliance in June 2015. She has kept the books balanced in Central Minnesota!
Patty has three children and three grandchildren she adores. She currently lives in St. Cloud with her dogs, Hank and Hailee.
Sandy Nadeau, Director of Development and Communication
Sandy Nadeau has worked in the non-profit arena for 27 years. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a Master's Degree in Education with an Emphasis on Community/Agency Counseling, both bestowed summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. In 2013, she was honored as a Distinguished Alumni by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for her work in the communities where she has resided.
Nadeau has worked for the Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, The Youth Foundation in Edwards, Colorado, and MADD-Wisconsin. Her career has taken her from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Vail, Colorado, to St. Cloud, Minnesota.
She currently resides in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, with her husband and bagpipe player, Joe. They share their home with their cat, Tres.
Johanna Klinkner, Manager of Community Advocacy
Johanna has worked as an advocate with the Central MN Task Force on Battered Women (CMTFBW), aka Anna Marie’s Alliance, for 22 years. She provided fifteen years of service as a Criminal Justice Intervention Advocate. In this position she provided direct services to crime victims, engaged in systems change work through participation on the Benton and Stearns County’s Family Violence and Sexual Assault Councils; she served on the Children’s Justice Initiative Team-Benton County; and has served on the Benton County Human Services Case Consultation Team. She facilitated Men’s Education groups through the St. Cloud Intervention Project, and facilitated Women’s Educational and Support groups through the same program.
Johanna has co-facilitated Violence Intervention groups at the Benton County Jail. She has engaged in studies in the Criminal Justice Program at St. Cloud State University. Through Anna Marie’s speaker’s bureau, Johanna educates community members and agencies about domestic abuse. She was involved as a presenter in professional training for Legal Aid, and for state-wide training for Human Services. She has participated in education of law enforcement personnel in Stearns and Benton counties. She has attended numerous workshops about community issues effecting crime victim services.
Johanna has testified on several occasions as an Expert witness on Domestic Abuse. Johanna is a member of the St Cloud area Metro Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and she is a certified member of the Community Emergency Response Team.
Kim Salitros, Manager of Volunteer Services
Kim Salitros started as a volunteer on Anna Marie's Speaker's Bureau in 2001, sharing her story of survival to area schools and healthcare facilities. She became employed as a Women's Advocate for Anna Marie's in 2006, a Criminal Justice Intervention Advocate in 2010, and was promoted to Volunteer Coordinator in 2014. In October 2016, Kim added the duties of managing all in-kind donations to her role.
Before following her passion for helping victims of domestic violence, Kim was a radio broadcaster.
She is currently a student at St. Cloud State University with a double major in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Relational and Organizational Communication and English-Creative Writing. In her spare time, Kim enjoys gardening and reading. She currently resides in Sauk Rapids with her husband, Dave, and two cats, Gracie and Lefty.
Tamara J. Hennes-Vix, Manager of Shelter Services
Tamara began her employment at Anna Marie's Alliance as Manager of Children and Youth Services in May 2015. In October 2016, Tamara began a new position as Manager of Shelter Services. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Welfare and a Master's Degree in Public and Nonprofit Institutions. Prior to working at Anna Marie's Alliance, Tamara was emplyed at the Central MN Sexual Assault Center for eleven years. While there, she worked directly with vicitms of sexual assault, trained volunteer advocates, and oversaw the implementation of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program.
As Anna Marie's Alliance Manager of Shelter Services, Tamara supervises employees that provide direct services to residents staying in Anna Marie's Shelter. The Children's Program and Shelter Staff strive to make the shelter and the community safe and violent-free by providing client advocacy, resources for healing from the effects of domestic violence, and compassionate services that meed the needs of every resident.
Debra L. Schroeder, Manager of Prevention and Education
Deb began working as Community Education Coordinator on August 10, 2000. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University in Speech Communications Interdepartmental Studies; focusing her academic course work to include business, multicultural communication, conflict resolution and human relations. She has completed 30-hours of certified basic mediation skills through the Center for Continuing Studies at SCSU.
In 2006 her duties at Anna Marie’s expanded to include the development and implementation of Connect: Growing a healthy relationship community™ . This expanded Deb’s presentation repertoire beyond intimate relationship violence to include a broader picture of the importance of how we treat each other at work, where we worship, with our neighbors as well as at home.
With almost 30 years working in the non-profit sector, Deb has had the opportunity to make presentations locally, regionally, and nationally.
Marilyn Bartell, Manager of Facilities
Marilyn joined Anna Marie’s Alliance in 1985 working with charitable gambling. She joined the Board of Directors from 1987-2008 and worked in many different areas along the way from Gambling Manger, Food Program Coordinator, Facilities Manager, Transitional House Advocate, Financial/HR Assistant and currently back to the Facilities Manager. “I have certainly loved my journey through the organization, helping out where I was needed. It has shaped the person I have become, my passion is truly to help the women feel loved and realize how important, wonderful and amazing they are.”
Marilyn and her husband, Russell, reside in Becker, MN. They have 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 6 German Shepard K-9 kids!
