Criminal Justice Intervention Advocate Internship

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the criminal justice system's response to domestic assaults by tracking cases from arrest through disposition
  • Assist with data collection pertaining to domestic assaults
  • Notify victims of their rights as crime victims and assist them with attaining resources and information
  • Support women through the court process through conversation, preparation for hearings, and accompaniment to court
  • Maintain files on assault victims in conjunction with assault cases
  • Assist with Safety Planning sessions for women who wish to drop no-contact orders

Qualifications:

  • Open to women 20 years of age and older
  • Previous experience working with issues relating to poverty, oppression, homelessness, mental illness, and chemical dependency a plus
  • Previous experience in crisis/resource support capacity a plus
  • Ability to work with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team
  • Excellent organization and priority setting skills    
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good understanding of professional boundaries    
  • Computer, data entry, and filing skills
  • Commitment to non-violence
  • Professionalism
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of shelter location, client information, and staff information

Requirements:

  • Minimum time commitment of 30-32 hours/week or 450 hours total during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm)
  • Valid MN Driver’s license
  • Complete application and screening process
  • Attend Agency Orientation, Criminal Justice Intervention Advocacy Training, and any mandatory in-service training
