Description:

Women who are moving out of Anna Marie’s shelter to their own place often have little to no financial resources to hire movers and/or a moving truck. Many women have gathered furniture and other items while staying at the shelter, which we have stored for a short time; others have kept belongings in storage or at a friend or family member’s home. Moving day is very exciting for women who are starting over, and we want every woman and family to be able to take their belongings with them to their new place. We need volunteers to either drive women and their belongings to their new home or accompany a woman who has secured a moving truck, and help her to load and unload her belongings. You will be working with other volunteers, and mileage for driving to get belongings and/or take them to her new home is reimbursed.

Responsibilities:

• Attend orientation
• Respond to requests for help via phone or email
• Meet and/or pick up women and children at the shelter
• Help load belongings at the shelter, if needed
• Drive to location where belongings are being stored and help load them, if needed
• Drive to new home and help unload belongings
• Respect confidentiality agreements
• Log hours in Volunteer Log Book
• Submit agency-approved mileage for reimbursement

Qualifications:

• Non-violent lifestyle
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent interpersonal boundaries
• Ability to interact with children
• Have own transportation; trucks and vans beneficial
• Bilingual status is beneficial

Time commitment: We will call you at least one week before a woman is planning to move out of the shelter. Commitment will be one weekday, evening, and/or weekend periodically (per your availability and the need of our residents).
